Sunseeker manhattan 86 CAT 3412E. Roughly a year ago boat was under transit to be lifted out. Marina we are in had a problem with calcified worm casts. This caused engine raw water intake to be restricted. Under way about 40 mins into a passage, engine overheated coolant expanded into expansion vessle throwing water all over the top of the starboard engine shut down starboard and returned to marina . Dived under boat cleared the raw water intake and topped up coolant. Ran engines without load for a number of hours to ensure no warnings flagged. following weekend took boat back on passage to be lifted out and the starboard engine keeps throwing a throttle warning and dropping RPM to 5000 (Limp mode) this fault will clear and engine goes up to 20K rpm no problems. used the boat with intermittent issue around a year. serviced boat last weekend found seawater cooling impeller in starboard engine to have overheated and caused slight damage. Replaced impeller and tooki for a run out and the starboard engine when engaging is snaching to 10k RPM instantly causing kick over as the port idles at the usual 5K RPM. Would i be going in the correct direction of thiinking to next replace the throttle position sensor as this may have got damaged off the collant being thrown over the engine. My other thinking is to purchase the CAT ET software and monitor the sensors to see what the throttle position sensor is reading and see if this reading is erratic or at least tell me what fault code is being thrown up when engine comes up with throttle warning.

Have you checked the connection points for the throttle position sensor for corrosion? Is the sensor easy to get to on both engines? If yes, perhaps swap the sensors between engines to see if the issue follows the sensor. Is the sensor cheap enough that it makes sense to just replace it and see what happens (after first checking connection points for any issues)?

Yes this would be a good suggestion to be honest before spending money buying software. it should be fairly easy to get to. would just be identyfying that exact wiring loom. I do know what it looks like so should be straight forward. Appreciate your suggestion.

So after some digging I am unable to find the tps. This is an ECU controlled engine. Would this be inside the throttle module rather than on the engine itself? It’s ran off Mathers throttle module through Mather’s circuit board

you dont have any idea where the tps is do you dock master? It’s ECU controlled so I’m starting to thing it’s not on the engine itself

I do not on those engines, sorry. I would think some googling would yield results pretty easily. You don’t have drawings for your engines? A call to your local CAT dealer might get you an answer as well.
