Sealing iron diesel tank

    Hi all ,
    We are renovating a 1959 feadship , we currently mainly live on board . Our disel tank is huge and we want to block one of its sections . I am attaching a picture , I thought of cutting a 3 mm metal ( or plexiglass) and to glue it with special sika flex so it is sealed , my worry is the lower part where we have a circle hole in the button.
    1. What do you think better putting metal or plexiglass
    2. Any other tips ?
