Looking for a estimated price difference for late 90's Hatteras motoryacht (65'-70') DDEC 12v92 vs Cat 3412 both with 2500-3000 hrs. (I realize a 12v92 rebuild coming up very soon) Also a complete paint job topsides & bottom cost. (75k -100k) ? Thanks
Not enough details to give a serious estimate. It all comes down to equipment, general maintenance situation, cosmetic condition,.... Endless things to compare. Would be an interesting topic to discuss though. Value of both boats (which one has which engines? Will depend on a good number of aspects and is difficult to say without knowing both boats even with more details. Lots of expensive stuff to care for and see fail on both boats...
The 3412s especially if 3412Es are great engines. I ran a pair of Es in a 2003 70’ Johnson for about 8-9 years, they had 5500 hours when the boat sold and passed survey with flying colors. very little maintenance required over the 4000 hours I put on them beside the routine stuff I would say that, all other things being equal (very hypothetical) the 3412s should add at least $100k value over the DDs, maybe more bottom paint won’t affect value, it’s routine maintenance every couple of years. Figure $5k all Hatteras weee painted which will last much longer that gel coat. You d be surprised what a good detailer could do with 20-25 year old awlgrip or imron. I ve seen mid 80s Hatteras paint brought back from the dead…. If it is really damaged, I’d say a good $100k for a spray job.
Hard to imagine the 12V92 boat would come anywhere close to the CAT powered boat. There is a high % of buyers that simply won't even consider the 12V92 boat. And the DDEC's are very hard to near impossible to get parts and service for (trust me, I know). I don't think you are going to get a quality, full topside paint job on a 65' boat for $75-$100k. I paid more than that for my 54' sportfish. Maybe on the east coast costs are much lower because you have a number of yards that can do it but that still seems low.
